Samuel J. Boyd

Samuel J. Boyd, Jr., is the president and chief executive of the National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC). Prior to assuming the NAIC presidency in 2006, Sam served as NAIC vice president, during which time he managed the production and delivery of NAIC’s three marquee offerings: the Journal of EDM Finance magazine, the Research and Thought Leadership program and the Plan Sponsor Consortium.
Before joining the NAIC, Sam served as vice president of development for Thompson Hospitality in Herndon, Va., where he led all joint-venture revenue generation and business growth. Sam has also worked with Landmark Partners, a private equity firm in Simsbury, Conn., and with Booz Allen Hamilton consulting in McLean, Va. Sam started his career as a civil engineer with the Minnesota Department of Transportation in St. Paul, Minn.
Sam holds an MBA from the Colgate Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va., where he was the founder and principal of Massie Partners Search Fund. While at Darden, Sam was a graduate assistant researcher/writer and a key contributor to In Your Own Backyard: Investment Opportunities in the Emerging Domestic Market, a Darden School research study and report on investment possibilities within the EDM.
Sam earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C.
