What is NAIC?
The National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC) is a 501(c) (6), not-for-profit association for private equity firms that invest in an ethnically diverse marketplace.
Who are NAIC Members?
NAIC members are private equity firms that invest in privately held businesses that have a high probability of growth and the ability to generate significant returns for investors and shareholders. NAIC membership is open to investment firms that meet our eligibility criteria.
As of May 2008, NAIC has 55 member firms. Together, these firms have more than $10 billion in capital under management. For more details about our members, visit the NAIC Members page of this website.
NAIC’s Mission
NAIC’s mission is to promote the development of successful private equity investment firms that:
- invest in businesses significantly owned by ethnic individuals;
- invest in businesses that substantially serve ethnically diverse markets; and/or
- are significantly owned by minority or ethnic individuals.
To achieve this mission, NAIC operates under a strategic plan with five strategic cornerstones:
- Increasing the supply of capital to the US Emerging Domestic Market (EDM);
- Defining the EDM private equity industry and becoming the recognized thought leader;
- Increasing the visibility of member firms and the industry;
- Expanding NAIC’s membership base; and
- Increasing the organizational value proposition and member services.
NAIC Programs
NAIC hosts several educational forums and professional conferences designed to give NAIC members, institutional investors, and other stakeholders an opportunity to expand their knowledge, build relationships and exchange information. What is the US Emerging Domestic Market (EDM)?
NAIC uses the term “US Emerging Domestic Market (EDM)” to describe investments in the following kinds of enterprises:
- Businesses targeting ethnic and minority consumer markets;
- Businesses targeting large urban consumer and business markets; and
- Businesses in which ethnic minorities have majority ownership
